OK, adding a couple of these to my christmas wish list (what, too early?). Bauer Pottery here in LA has teamed up with the Russel Wright company to re-issue some of the most iconic modern tableware of the 40's and 50's.

Heath Ceramics Los Angeles

I won't give it all away since a post will be going up later today on AT, but man, the Heath showroom on Beverly is beautiful, and I didn't even see it finished. It's full of skylights that float such perfectly even lighting over the pieces that they look like they're studio lit. It doesn't hurt that Heath Ceramics are incredible.



It's also worth noting that they'll be selling a couple of other brands at the store including Weck Canning jars. I hadn't seen them before and was so blown away I almost forgot that I was there for Heath. I am also, admittedly, getting really into canning and pickling, so this was perfect timing.



The grand opening of the showroom is this weekend (all weekend) so make a point of stopping by. Adam Silverman will be there along with Heath's owners Catherine Bailey and Robin Petravic.

Christmas, Revisited

I'm a little behind on all the things I wanted to tell you about. But better late than never, right? Anyway, remember how I was all about doing handmade stuff this year? Well yeah, my friend Emberly outdid everyone and their mom by making this dishcloth and pot holders. Seriously. Like she made the actual dishcloth and then embroidered it. Man, I'm impressed and happy.

Wow did I get some amazing gifts for christmas. And somehow I still want more. It's a disease. So on with it: Jonathan Adler is having a sale!

Tortoise

There is this incredible Japanese Home store on Abbot Kinney called Tortoise that I can't get enough of. Everything they carry is amazingly delicate and beautiful. Bowls, cups, vases, planters, calendars, textiles, everything is lovelier than you thought possible in its sheer simplicity. Here's a little photo tour. Online they appear to have even more stuff. I particularly love the calendars, japanese dyed textiles, and these leaves plates.

Coe and Waito

I went to first fridays on Abbott Kinney and in one of the beauty related stores I noticed these sweet porcelain pinecones and acorns. They're exquisite and made by Coe and Waito. I love their bowls too.

Yes, I want these, they're on sale.

Tableware Decals

Most of my plates and cups are plain white. I like to keep it simple. I also like the idea of using these Farm Animal Decals on them to spice things up every once in a while. They'll stay on through the washing but you can still peel them off when you've tired of them. These could also make a great stocking stuffer. ALSO I just realized that I love the idea of using these instead of those 'charms' for keeping track of your glass at a party. How awesome would it be to have a rabbit on your wine glass?

Anthropologie

I always seem to forget about Anthropologie eventhough when I make it into a store, I love most of the things I see. Right now they are doing yellow right:

Lorena Barrezueta

I'm sure you've all scoped out Grace's digs over on design sponge. Obviously her place is lovely and I love that it isn't overly styled or sterile. She really lives there. The kitchen vignette with the Lorena Barrezueta tray nailed it for me. I love how vintage it looks and how the eggplant color compliments the green in the plants. Sigh.

At Home in Blue

Jamie nailed it when she got me this blue platter from Crate and Barrel. I thought it was vintage and nearly fell off my chair when she told me where it was from.

Martha My Dear

I've spent the weekend hanging with my mom, my aunts and my other favorite cousin and reading a lot of Martha Stewart. My aunts also happen to be absolutely the best hostesses a girl could ever learn from (some pics from the weekend soon). In the meantime, why does martha have to have so much appeal? I might have to repaint my kitchen cabinets. She absolutely hits the nail on the head when it comes to my favorite blues. I also can't get enough of keeping it simple. I fall for it every time.

Kath from VWI gave me a head's up about her shop in hollywood carrying french and british imported furniture and accessories. How have I not been here yet. Farmhouse tables, glassware, wrought iron fleur-de-lis! You can do a little bit of window shopping on the website or you can just wander in and check it out. Perch!

Isn't this always how it goes. I try to take a vacation and something pulls me back in.

I had to share Perch with you. They create smooth, shiny, classic ceramic pieces for tabletop (and other stuff). This is what I am lusting after. Again I am a sucker for things that are simple and a little playful. Something that makes people stop and say, Where'd you get that?

And then I know. I have won.

Basket

A container for one thing

I love the playfulness of the company. Here is their description of the basket above:
"what to put in this little gem? well, it's up to you. you don't have to put anything in it. but here are some ideas from other container owners... a fake flower, paper clips (more than one thing), a buddah statue, a diamond (really?), a tiny chair made out of an eraser, sand (also technically more than one thing), a matchbook, guilt, a small bar of soap, a wallet sized photo and lost love. What will you put in yours?"

Le Petit Atelier de Paris

A design collective in Paris (right near the pompidou center and Georges!) that apparently specializes in making things that I feel I cannot live without. The Atelier was started by 2 designers with the purpose of handmaking things for everyday life. Everything is made in the store.

Bread makes everything better

I bought my favorite bread at Le Pain du Jour over on Pico (just north of Lincoln). I don't know what it's called but it has raisins, hazelnuts, some other kind of nut, and it is delicious. I paired it with heirloom tomatoes from the farmers market, fresh mozzarella, homegrown basil and plenty of balsamic vinegar and olive oil (oh and sea salt). I cannot explain to you how good it was.
