LA Blog: Stylish Guide

Oh Yeah, I've been forgetting to add Stylish Guide to my LA blog roll! Genevieve has given me tons of tips (here and on AT). She rounds up great places to eat, bargains galore and everything's local to LA. Check out her recent post on French Bakeries in LA! Can't wait to check some of these places out!

More LA Blogs!

OK, I was getting sad that I hadn't added more LA design blogs to the right hand toolbar, but with the start of the Cure on Apartment Therapy (you're not too late to sign up btw) I've unearthed a couple more LA based bloggers covering their Cure progress:

Design Bee's Tiny Abode
Apartment 235 (which is funny because I just moved from a 235 street address)
Apartment Living: Color and Life
Hollywood and Western

[The poster image is from Designer Bee's Blog and you can buy it here]

Editor in Motion

All of us editors at Apartment Therapy LA got together this past sunday to 'discuss' and 'pow wow' and 'eat a lot of cadbury mini eggs'.

I like this picture because it looks like I'm saying something important. But probably I was just describing that it took me 4 hours to get to Pasadena.

Housemartin Flowers

I think it's pretty obvious how into flowers I am. Oddly I hadn't really noticed until I started this blog and I just always gravitate to the flowery image. In that spirit I had to give a nod to housemartin and her incredible wedding bouquets. You can order your own through her company ink and peat if you're in Portland. I'm always amazed and inspired by her eye for color and texture. Enjoy!

Tomatoes

I've started writing a weekly piece over at cityzine on what's ripe at the farmer's market and normally I include a super simple recipe that just involves cutting things and not actually cooking them. Be warned, I use a slightly different voice in these posts. I guess you could say it's my other side. the side that's a little crass, a little bit more silly, and maybe even...offensive?

One of those weeks

Somehow last week's hectic-ness is spilling over into this week. This is lunch at my desk while blogging and doing my homework assignment on color. (My lunch is a giant hunk of smoked salmon and meyer lemon from my tree! A lazy person's lunch...)

LA Design Blogs

I'm compiling a list of as many great Los Angeles interior/design/home blogs as I can (that are maintained by one or 2 people not whole brands). So if you have one or love one leave it in the comments. I'd love to have a greater sense of the community we have here. A couple of my favorites, in no particular order are:

Coco + Kelley
No Accounting for Taste
My Little Apartment
Happy Mundane

Update:
All you LA-ers have a new place in LA pride here in the right hand collumn. I'll keep adding names as you keep telling me!

Let's see how many of us there are!

Lara Cameron and Kirin and Co Design

I'm so into Lara Cameron right now. She's made a bunch of card (and tag) designs for the Moo holiday series that I think are perfectly simple and sweet:

Check out her blog and her etsy shop to see more:

Wired Living Home

So I got to go to the fancy cocktail party for the opening of the Wired Living Home earlier this week. Beside it being so full of people that it was hard to even get a load of the house, it was pretty impressive. I mean it's a huge modern house designed by a whole design firm on a hillside in a really nice part of LA. What's not to like? You can read about way ore of the details over on Apartment Therapy. I also uploaded a whole (dark) photo tour....

I loved the wallpaper in the kids room and the guest room. It was listed as being from either Hollywood at Home or Luna Textiles.

It's a small world after all

I love how small this blogworld can be even though there are so many great blogs out there. Here's my story (bear with me, these things are VERY exciting for me):

In doing a google image search for a post over on AT, I found an image I liked that was attached to a blog that looked interesting. I got really into it only to discover that no accounting for taste is actually written by a)someone that lives around the corner from me, and b) is the person who lives in the Fall Color Contest Entry I posted last week on AT!

Anyway you should check out her blog. You can thank her for pointing out Aesthetic Apparatus and their cool posters.

Lorena Barrezueta

I'm sure you've all scoped out Grace's digs over on design sponge. Obviously her place is lovely and I love that it isn't overly styled or sterile. She really lives there. The kitchen vignette with the Lorena Barrezueta tray nailed it for me. I love how vintage it looks and how the eggplant color compliments the green in the plants. Sigh.

Potato Stamp Blinds

Love this technique and that being imperfect is all part of the aesthetic. Great work poopscape!

Yes. Just Yes.

I already own this credenza and if anyone in los angeles knows where the hell I can find a mirror like this for less than a small fortune, dear god, please tell me. It will make me happy. I will look at it and I will say: love.

Snippets

Here are some images that I couldn't pass up. I'm still on vacation so more later...

New Thrift Finds from Paper Pony

Raya's House From Paper Pony (via Design Sponge

This kitchen vignette is exactly the inspiration I need. I've been looking for better ways to keep white as the strongest color in a room without it looking stark or sterile or entirely missing color. This nails it.

Lotus Lamp on ebay via More ways to Waste Time
Love this image because I've somehow ended up with a lot of this vintage/retro-y kind of gold (a mirror, a screen, these flower decorative wall things) but have been having trouble keeping them from looking too thrift store. It looks like white is one part of the answer...

Tilt Shift photography via Black Eiffel

I am obsessed with miniatures and was shocked (shocked!) that these are not models, it's the real deal. Magic's in the photography baby...

I heart I heart linen

Some great fabric swatches and to die for fabric on this little girl's dress (yes, I am all about girl stuff at the moment) from my latest favorite blog I heart linen.

Awesomeness

Nantaka Joy Card

I've gotten a little behind and just wanted to take a moment to say thanks! to all the other bloggers that have so sweetly given this blog props. It helps and feels nice inside. So, THANK YOU! As the notes says, I think you're pretty awesome:

Hey, I'm it! And it's a Good Thing

Decorno tagged me with the Blog Tag and I will gladly participate!

Here's how it works:
I get to tell 8 random things about myself and then list 8 blogs I love... I then need to go tell those bloggers that they're IT. Simple. Fun. And a cool way to find other blogs about things we love (or should).

Here goes:

1) This is so much harder than it seems. If that doesn't tell you something about me...

2) I share a birthday with brigitte bardot, moon-unit zappa, and bam margera (yeah bam. from jackass. we were born the same year and everything).

3) I am a pop culture and celebrity gossip fiend. I love perez, wwtdd, superficial and The Soup! This will come as no surprise to anyone that actually knows me. It is shameful but I can't stop.

4) Although obsessed with pop culture, I have never seen Top Gun, any of the Godfathers, or any of the Rocky's. This is horrifying to more people than you would think.

5) In my mind, numbers have colors. For example:
1=Red
2=Yellow
3=Orange
4-Purple
5=Red
6=Green
When I have to remember a number I just remember the color that goes with it. Like 64 is green purple and then I know. I don't really even think this, I just see it in my mind and then I don't forget. I've never liked 3 by the way because I don't like orange. It's unfair to 3, but what can you do?

6) I am insane if I don't get 8 hours of sleep.

7) I can listen to the same song over and over again for hours. A couple examples would be (in no particular order) coconut records 'west coast', beatles 'who knows', and maybe it also happened with this one beyonce song. Shame.

7) Although I love to read, I have never read the same book twice.

8) I love to drive. Not in traffic, or anything. I just love to be by myself on a road trip, going somewhere. You know, with me.

Here are 8 blogs I love:
Seriously Foodie
More Ways to Waste Time
Making it Lovely
SF Girl By Bay
TripleCreme
Not Martha
Becoming Home
Paris Apartment

Hi Everyone--

I'm in link obsession at the moment and have updated the links to the left. I still read so many other cool blogs, but this is a good start, so if you're bored or procrastinating, check 'em out!
