I totally forgot to share that over easter I actually made those golden eggs. They turned out more gold than I thought they'd be but I wasn't able to eliminate brush strokes. Also, the gold came off on your hands, which in a way was kind of cool.

Washington Post Mention

Wow, thanks Robin for the tip that I was featured on the Washington Post Blog for the headboards I made for the little girls. I'm so honored, and surprised! So if you're here for the first time, welcome!
Thought I'd show a slightly closer up version of the 2 boards since people are looking for them.

I used Amy Butler Fabric for both. The light pink is pink wallflower and the other is Nigella Twill Water Lotus. I bought 30x40" foam core from staples and doublestick tape. I washed and ironed the fabric and then 'stretched it' over the foam core and just taped the back. It really was that easy. I had considered doing the whole padded headboard thing, but this way we could change out the whole shebang easily if the girls get bored with the fabric or change their minds about their favorite colors!

I Get to Decorate a New Home

OK, wish me luck everyone, this weekend I am embarking on a giant project. My bf is moving into a new house and I get to fill it with stuff! On a shoestring. Like a tiny shoestring to fill a 3 bedroom house. I have hardly been able to sleep I'm so excited.
So my plan: beg, borrow and steal as much furniture as possible (only slightly kidding), then it's all about craigslist. I have 2 tables, a sofa, an expedit bookcase, and a twin mattress all lined up to pick up this weekend for under $500. And they're awesome. After I spray paint them.
I also get to put together some little girls' rooms.
Overall I'm going for simple, homey but still an edge of modern. And I'm going to try to do it all for under $1,500. I have time to finish out the details, just need to get it semi functional this weekend.
Restrictions: we can't paint. Damn. We have to limit how many holes go in the walls. Damn. But that's it.
Tips welcome!

It's Official!

So it's official! I'm going to be blogging for Apartment Therapy LA. After a lengthy process I got the news earlier this week and the announcement went up on the site today. It turns out they've chosen 2 of the finalists so I will be joined by Grace who did a great house tour of her own Pasadena abode (with an adorable Husky that almost stole the spotlight). Thanks to everyone's support. I'm very excited to bring local LA design finds, small space living ideas and a bit of LA's history to the AT:LA community!
I'll still be updating this blog as daily as is possible. Please forgive any slacking!

Taking care of Home
It was a weekend of taking care of things around the house (that can get put off). Among the things I took care of, I am most proud of getting this lamp functioning in the bathroom. I loved the idea of a giant lamp filling up the high ceiling of my bathroom but wasn't totally sure how to get it wired up:
I was afraid that it would be complicated or impossible, but my mom helped me navigate at OSH and I had the right equipment. Success!
I also hung this painting that's been leaning against the wall for weeks:
