Thoughts on the Parker Palm Springs

So we went to Palm Springs for the weekend (yay! getaway!). We stayed at an awesome place that I'll post about later this week. For now, my thoughts on checking out the Parker Hotel Palm Springs, where we had breakfast yesterday:

-It's cool, but honestly, looking at the pictures is better than being there, it isn't that cool.
-To me, the decor is one notch too close to 'grandma'. I love Jonathan, but really, all this?
-The gardens are awesome, probably the best part.
-Um, where's the pool, we couldn't find it to check it out.
-Way too scene-y and didn't seem at all relaxing, everyone is just checking out who else is there and what they look like.
-It took WAY too long to get our food. Like, really way too long.
-Loved the patio.

The garden design is lovely! Elysian Landscapes in LA put it together and the idea was to create intimate little nooks tucked away in the meandering paths of the garden. Totally worked, the garden really isn't even that big, but they used the space well.

This is Elliott when we had been waiting for 25 minutes for waffles and no one else was in the restaurant. He wanted to leave. He was not impressed.

This was the waffle. I was impressed. I could not finish it to save my life.

This was too grandma for me, just way too much stuff, and oddly for Jonathan Adler, not enough color for me.

Those are just my thoughts. What are yours?

Sold!

UPDATE: Awww, the people that bought the set sent me a picture of the set at their house (with their kitty!).

So part of my Cure progress is that I finally made a decision on this sofa/chair set.
I haven't liked the brown for a long time plus about a year ago I inherited a similar teak set from my gramma (but it needed to get new cushions and I've been procrastinating).

Anyway, moving back into my place after the rain damage and seeing the same old brown motivated me to post them on craigslist. Today the nicest people came an bought it. Now I have space. And can move onto picking fabric for the other set! I was told Simplaform would be a good place to have cushions made, but any other recommends would be awesome, especially affordable ones).

Look! Progress!

I bought frames! Inspired by sfgirlbybay's redesign of her living room I embraced the Ikea Ribba frame and have placed them where I think I might want them. Now I just need to find what goes inside (oh and after months of thinking I would make the deer into a pillow, I followed my mom's advice and framed it. She was right, it is better framed).

More Mid Century from Urban

So after Grace's lovely fainting couch post yesterday on AT, the last thing I was thinking was mid century. And then I saw the Convertible Sofa at Urban Outfitters. It's a sofa, it's a bed (thus possibly solving some, ahem, sleeping issues). It's mid century cool. It's on sale. I currently have a danish modern brown sofa and armchair that I've been on the fence about for a while. The wood base is blonde and with hard wood floors, it's just all so ... brown.

That's why I love the crisp white base on this convertable and the fact that you could sleep on it (or have a houseguest sleep on it. It also seems like a fun piece to have outside (I guess on a covered patio) for parties and lounging. I do wonder about the quality though. It looks a little 'wrinkley' in some spots. Anyone haveany experience with it? Or anything from Urban?

2007 Anniversary Edition of the Eames Plywood Elephant

"To celebrate the 100th birthday of Charles Eames, Vitra is introducing a limited edition of the Eames Plywood Elephant, designed in 1945 but never produced."

If $1,907 is out of your price range, you can always enjoy the elephants as part of the July 2007 downloadable calendar (it's free!).

Also, why didn't I ever know that you can actually buy prints from the Eames Office for under $100 in most cases. Some of my favorites:

Gramma's House

One of my childhood homes is being sold. It's a house that my gramma and grandpa built in 1952. My parents were married in the backyard and I spent a lot of my first 5 years there. It's mid century and the fireplace was built using rocks that my mom remembers scavenging in the hollywood hills with her dad. They built the house in Glendale back when there was only one freeway in LA (the 110) and if you're friend moved to the san fernando valley, you wrote letters since it was so far away. Here's to a different era of LA.
