Dark Bedroom + Curtains!

I spent a good amount of time over the last two days getting the curtains done for the bedroom and it's finally starting to come together and at least is a serene place to rest my weary unpacking eyes!

The walls in the bedroom are a dark grey (Kendall Charcoal From Benjamin Moore in the flat Aura Finish) and the curtains are just from Ikea. I wanted to keep the bedroom dark and simple (see my inspiration right here).

I'd like to get a rug to put towards the bottom of the bed and we still haven't figured out night stands (um, yeah, that's a moving box I'm using). I love that we get so much sun in here during the day and that we can see the neighbor's orange tree from bed!

UPDATE: Here's a before picture (oops, forgot it the first time)!

MIchael Kors Bedding

Just noticed that Zappos offers some Michael Kors Bedding. I'm a big fan of keeping bedding simple but I love the idea of a nice patterned fitted sheet like one of these with our fluffy white duvet cover over it.

(Plus Zappos has the best customer service and I seem to get everything the very next day with free shipping!) See all of these linens here where they're on sale.

My Favorite Bedroom Right Now, Plus Some Others

It's Cure Time over on Apartment Therapy and I need it. I'm scaling back my posts over there (and some of my other responsibilities) so that I can focus back on having a place I love. So while I'm writing posts about the Cure, I'm going to be participating to the best of my ability.

I've lived with E for almost 9 months and I still more or less want to kill myself every time I walk through the door. I don't need this place to be magazine worthy, I just want to want to be here. So here are some images up for inspiration. Above is another amazing room from AB Chao. Thanks to Down Pipe and some yellow, this room is awesome. I might be ripping it off very soon.

Otherwise, these are some bookmarked images I have in my files. My apologies, I haven't kept track of where they came from, so if you know, please chime in!

(This one is Maxwell's Bedroom, from AT and even though he wants to change it, I love it as is.)

Bedroom Inspiration

I don't know, there's something so natural, but still stylish, about Maxwell's Bedroom. Love those pillows and that the room looks like people live there. Normally I'm a real blue and green person but I really love these warm colors.

Saffron Marigold

Anisha from Saffron Marigold sent over a link to some incredible textiles that remind me of things my parents have saved from their trips around the world. I love the idea of using some in a really modern space to add some texture and warmth to a room. They're handcrafted Indian bedding and linens and they're beautiful and classic:

Bedfellows in Studio City

I'm on a hunt for cool stuff in the Valley (any tips appreciated). My friend Jamie took me to Bedfellows on Ventura Boulevard to kick of my quest. I was into it. A totally strange mixture of contemporary knock off's, awesome vintage paintings, and (as the name would suggest) contemporary linens and bedroom furniture.

Unfortunately I'd say that the store does suffer from being too packed with stuff and having slightly too many styles going on to really put my finger on one. But their window display sells the store as modern bedrooms. So that's good enough for me!

How was your weekend?

Mine was wet.

The thunder and lightening was so incredible on friday night that I got out of bed to watch it from the living room. I guess that was a good thing because when I got back to the bedroom it was raining inside, on my bed and down the walls. Arg.

After totally melting down for so many obvious reasons (uh did I mention they found mold in my apartment last year and a 3 week remediation ended up taking 3 months. 3 months of me couch surfing and developping a crazy case of insomnia) the silver lining is that i found a great sublet around the corner for the same price as the 'motel' that my landlord was offering to put me up in. This time around it should only take 2 weeks to repair the damage. We'll see. They have to rip out the old drywall and replace the ceiling (oh and fix the roof?), dry the walls out and then re-drywall, paint, etc.

Oh did I mention my birthday is friday. Ugh.

September

September is a wierd month in California. And by wierd I mean the best. September is the best month of the year. The weather stays warm and the days still feel long-ish and the feeling of summer is still in the air. But then there's this other feeling. This slight cooling. This breeze. This something that tells you that things are changing. Even if you can't put your finger on it. And that space in between seasons, that's where I am sublimely happy. It's magic.

So, thanks for hanging around Summer:

And nice to see you again Fall (time to break out things that are comfy):
