Going by my favorite thrift store I saw these 2 items and didn't end up with either but wonder, would you have bought them?
First off, these chairs, which I know I've seen in domino or somewhere in turquoise or green or some other bright 'modern' color. They aren't totally my style, but I think they could work in the right context:
And then this bar. I swooned a bit over it, but where would I put it? A related question: does anyone know where to get things powder coated? This is $75 and needs new glass and some sprucing up. Otherwise it's really really nice. And I think they'd negotiate on the price:

First, may I ask where this favorite thrift store is?
The chairs are a little too beach housey for me but I get where you are going with the bright paint job. I think if the legs and arms were more refined you'd have a winner.
The bar - $75 is a little much for needing that much work (I think powder coating is expensive) but if you got a better deal, it would be a fun project.
The thickness of glass you need for table tops doesn't come cheap...check out what that would cost to replace before you swoon too deeply ! Umi
Ooh thanks for the quick feedback you two! I think I can live without them, but it's always nice to envision how they'd be used!
Ok, I just realized that the post you linked to says you don't want to reveal your source. I can understand that.. but I am desperate! I moved to LA from the east coast where there are antique stores and flea markets a plenty and most people don't know what anything is worth and deals are still to be had! I need a bargain! :)
ooooh where is this magical thrift store??
love the bar
oops... i supposed i ought to have read the other comments first!! sneaky sneaky! :)
haha, one day you guys, I promise, I just need to keep a couple of secrets!
laure, check out Island Powder Coating. they don't have a site, but when I'm home tomorrow I'll email you their number. they have a booth at the Rose Bowl and they're amazing! and I think pretty inexpensive too...
Those chairs would work on the set of the Golden Girls or in a predictable setting such as a Hawaiian home but I can't see them in a city dwelling. There a little "much".
As for powder coating in LA.. Pyramid in the Valley.
I definetly would have gotten the chairs. Probably would have painted them black and would some gorgeous turqouise fabric for the cushions. We need two more chairs for our dining table and these would be nice to have for parties and could serve a purpose anywhere else.
The bar/shelf I would have considered, depending on how much work it needed. But, repainted, and with some new glass, i'd throw some leather baskets on it ( in the cubes), and dress it up, for the perfect, front entrance console!
