Terrarium

In my process of making this house a home, some weeks are full of huge changes and some are small and quiet. A couple of weeks ago, a trip to the salvation army yielded this great glass bowl/display globe for $2. It inspired me to put together a new little terrarium that now sits in the dining room (I was also inspired by this place!). It's one part fern and one part succulent and it's doing surprisingly well even a couple of weeks later. I think it's happy here.

I love this!! makes me miss LA...I live in an odd storefront here and there is only one big window on the front wall. the building directly on the sidewalk, so unfortunately, it's curtains-closed all. the. time. which means no plants.

anyway, thanks for posting this...I see a little kitty that likes it too!

This looks really good and healthy. Can you give me tips about what kind of dirt/gravel you used and how often you water? I would like to make one too but I'm scared of killing it before I even get started.

Yay LA Girls!

As for keeping terrariums alive, if they get too moist that's a downer so add charcoal or stop watering or give them more light. I used cactus/succulent soil so it would drain easily. Normally you would sprinkle charcoal as the bottom layer, but I skipped that this time. I water it maybe once a week or as I notice it's getting dry (and I definitely let it dry out between waterings)!
