Entryway update

The other night Abby gave me a pep talk (something along these lines) and I took what she said to heart. I need to make this place in Pasadena my own. I need to nest and I need to feel like I like how things look around me. So I started rearranging and I started with the entry. If you remember, it was looking like this. Using things we already owned I put this together (not entirely true, I bought the boxes ad the rug at Ikea) and feel much happier overall. Though it made me realize what I really really would like to see.

A narrower credenza or table that leaves room for a giant basket for all the shoes or a chair to sit on with hooks above for my purse and the backpacks. Yes. that would be perfect. But for now, this is a huge improvement.

Ooooh, I like it! It may not be exactly what you want (yet), but it is functional... and pretty!!! Now go do this to the rest of the house. :)

Thanks guys, elliott's parents came over this weekend and were impressed too. I hadn't realized how depressing our last entry situation had been. And since it's the first thing you see when you walk in, man, it feels much much better now!

first time commenter: this looks great! I haven't read much of your site yet, but from this post it seems you may be slowly moving in with your s.o. If so, I'm totally in the same boat. It can be great to really think about what you want to keep and what to get rid of bit by bit, but I'm going nuts after not having a dresser for two months!

Hi Laure,

I posted the B & A's of your entry on my blog today. Bravo sister! It is so cheery!

I know this comment is a little late on the uptake, but your picture is great! Loving the blog, and one quick idea:
the picture of what you've got, and the picture of what you want are very close to each other. I would turn the cubby credenza on it's side, slide it to the left but leave room for a basket (find one at goodwill or thrift store) and put hooks to the right, between the credenza and stairs.
The height of the credenza will give the entryway a bit more "grand" status, and you can still see the art work, and the lamp will illuminate more of the overall space by being higher up. Just a thought!

ahaha i know you posted this a while ago! but i just now found your blog (i was searching for succulent ideas... :]) and i LOVE what you did with your entryway! i have that same keep calm poster with the SAME frame, LOL. i *heart* ikea. sadly, the nearest ikea is hours away, and it takes a FULL DAY to do some shopping there when you factor in driving and meals and wandering, etc. but so worth it! i'm all inspired now... :]
