Pink Snowball Tree

I hadn't realized that the Walt Disney Concert Hall also has a garden. It's planted above the hall so there are restrictions for how deep trees' roots need to be and how heavy they become since they're essentially on the roof of part of a building. I was blown away because I have never seen this kind of tree before (and my mom works in plants, so really I've seen a lot). If I remember correctly it was called a Pink Snowball tree and it is from Madagascar. It looks strangely like some kind of a hydrangea tree. And I love it. It wins.

Oh I love that flower! I wish I could have one. I didn't notice them the time I toured the building, perhaps they weren't in bloom. I did see that there's an outdoor spot up on top of Disney Hall and a small fancy lunch was being prepped by Pinot.

The Getty in West LA has interesting plants too, I especially love their bougainvillea towers - the design of the trellis tower made an otherwise ubiquitous plant more interesting.

It's very unusual and I'm gonna find out what it is. UMI

Oh wow! We have white snowball trees in our garden, but I have never seen pink before. I wonder if we have them at the nursery... I want one!

I have one. It’s called dombeya something or other.
I first saw them at Disney hall and was blown away. It is very tolerant of tough conditions and weather here in Santa Clarita.
