We're Moving

So it looks like we're moving. I feel torn about it since it means moving deeper into Pasadena (and therefore further from the westside and the city) but we found the cutest house EVER. It happened quickly. Over the break E and I said: hey why don't we move out of this apartment. Maybe we can find a house to rent or something. Well, monday I found it:

It's 3 bedrooms plus a bonus room, has a huge backyard with citrus tress and room for a trampoline and a vegetable garden (our two priorities), 2 stories, character, is cheaper than the apartment we've been renting and, um, look at that kitchen. Yeah. The main drawbacks: no central air so we might die this summer or pay a fortune to keep it cool with window air conditioners. Also there's kind of crummy carpet in the bedrooms and upstairs. We might be able to have it replace, so we'll see.

But, other than location and convenience, the apartment we've been living in has been very hard to 'decorate' which is why I haven't shared much about it. We weren't planning on staying long so I didn't want to commit too much time, energy or money. That explains why, a year later, I'm still living with these:

Yeah, I live with vertical blinds on every window in the place. I kept meaning to replace them, but you know how it is.

I will miss the view of the park and the mountains:

I will not miss the painfully generic bathroom:

We're signing the lease today and then will probably move in the next couple of weeks (eek!). Let the nostalgia and stress and excitement begin. I have a bonified space to paint, fill with furniture, rearrange, stress out about, delight in, spend too much money on, etc.

If you find that the 3 bedrooms are just too huge, I'd gladly relocate...Absolutely beautiful.

On the flipslide, I'm with you about moving from a great location...done it and not really loving it - but I walk in my house, shut the door and the outside just floats away! I've even discovered parts of Houston outside the loop (gasp!) that are ALMOST as much fun as inner city (not really, but that's what I tell myself).

Congrats on a beautiful place.

Holy crap, woman! That house is like a fairy tale!!!!
I'm so jealous... but mostly happy for you. :)

My boyfriend and I are looking to move in the next few months, hopefully we'll be as lucky as you in finding a place.

I've heard that window air conditioners can cost less than central air since you only need to cool a few rooms at night and maybe only one during the day. Unless you work from home, or have small children at home all day.
The house looks great, and I think the added benefit of a garden and "character" will help mitigate the location.

What a sweet place! A person could be very happy there! Look forward to your vegetable garden! And good riddance to those vertical blinds - not sure I could have lived a whole year with them!

Very nice!

I love it, and Pasadena is still fabulous. You could be living in Hemet...

Can't wait to see how it comes together. It's like a little fairy tale bungalow. I'm always drawn to these homes!

Good luck with the move! The house is charming. And well-done on your "generic" bathroom. Cursory glance was lovely and until I read that you wouldn't miss it, I hadn't seen the sink, counter, faucet.... I noticed your added details instead. So at least you know you can work with "generic" when you have to!
