Prairie Mod Commandments

Hey, I started the UCLA extension program in Interior Design. This week we're reviewing architectural history in LA. It reminded me of something I've known for a while. I adore craftsman style. I think the principals that have sprouted from this style could serve me well this coming year:

Consider the Cost,
Form is Function,
Less Becomes More,
Useful and Beautiful,
Informal Meets Eloquent,
Integrate and Unify,
Bring the Outside In,
Think Natural,
Go Green and Uniquely You

What do you think?

How exciting Laure! I'm very lucky to live in a Craftsman bungalow, and everyday I see these principles applied in action in my home and pinch myself every day.

It's a bit long but here's my favorite quote from William Morris:

If I were asked to say what is at once the most important production of Art and the thing most to be longed for, I should answer, A beautiful House; and if I were further asked to name the production next in importance and the thing next to be longed for, I should answer, A beautiful Book. To enjoy good houses and good books in self-respect and decent comfort, seems to me to be the pleasurable end towards which all societies of human beings ought now to struggle.

Cool, huh?

Yes to craftsmans! They are so warm and beautiful at the same time, and LA has such great examples of them too.

All the best in the interior design class!

Good luck with the classes Laure - I want to hear how they go! I'm looking at doing the same :)

As for craftsmans - Seattle has the most amazing ones I've ever seen. If you ever make it up there, I'll tell you where to go to see some of the best ones :)
